Joseph DiLaurenzio, MSEd, LMHC, LPC, LCADC, NCC, CASAC, C-DBT, C-CBT is a psychotherapist who has experience working with diverse populations and cultural groups. I believe counseling and psychotherapy requires a solid evidenced-based framework, however also requires skillful augmentation as an art, in order to tailor-to-fit treatment needs of individuals.
I utilize various therapeutic theories in practice, & view counseling as integrative and eclectic to best suit needs of patients. Some theories I use include:CBT(Beckian-Cognitive Therapy & REBT(Ellis’ Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy), CPT(Cognitive Processing Therapy), ABA(Applied Behavior Analysis), Behavior Therapy &Third-Wave Mindfulness-based Interventions including: (DBT, MBCT, & MBSR), & Motivational Interviewing (MI), Gestalt, Existential, SFBT (Solution-Focused Brief Therapy) & more.
Mindfulness is a theory and practice of meditation and school of philosophy yielding from the East. I often integrate these skills and principles into treatment with my patients to assist them in leaning to become more present-oriented, and in the moment. Often, people oscillate through mental states of thought, i.e; rumination, thinking of the past and shifting towards anxious preoccupations about the future. I have been practicing mindfulness from a Zen/Chan orientation for the past 9 years.
